Watch: How elder people reacted to Google Glass

Reaction Of Elder People Using Google Glass

Google Glass is the most desired and most talked about wearable technology today. Though the price is exorbitantly high for a device that is yet considered still in development phase, there are many people who want to have their hands on it and there are a few others who haven’t even heard of it. Elder people, who are not tech savvy, have just heard about the device. Here is how they reacted when they were introduced to the Glass in person and allowed to try it on. The Google Glass is presently retailing at $1,500 in the US and GBP 1,000 in the UK, which converts to almost a 100,000 in INR

There's a 'Spiderman' in all of us!

Humans share certain genomic similarities with the          creepy-crawlies, finds a study.

There's a 'Spiderman' in all of us! Researchers have for

the first time sequenced the genome of the spider and

found that humans share certain genomic similarities

 with the creepy-crawlies.

Researchers at Denmark's Aarhus University and the

Beijing Genomics Institute (BGI) worked with two types

of spiders, representing two of the three main groups in

the spider family. One of these is a small velvet spider

and the other is a tarantula.

The researchers succeeded in sequencing the velvet

spider's genome, while there are still some unsolved

gaps in the genetic map of the tarantula.

"The idea was that, by comparing their genetic makeup,

we'd try to see whether we could say anything in

general terms about what makes a spider a spider," said

Kristian W Sanggaard from Aarhus University.

However, it is almost 300 million years since the two

types of spiders had a common ancestor, so the

researchers could only find a limited number of

similarities.

"But we found a number of genes - about two to three

hundred - that have only been found in these two types

of spiders and not in other organisms. They could be

candidates for genes specific to spiders," said Jesper S

Bechsgaard, also from Aarhus University.

Researchers also looked at the protein composition of

silk and venom production in spiders.

Many researchers would like greater insight into areas

such as how the spider makes its silk of thin, but

incredibly strong thread, and how its venom works.

By understanding the underlying mechanisms, it is

possible to convert this to industrial use in the long

term, for purposes such as manufacturing biomaterials

or developing medicine and pesticides.

By describing the genome, the researchers have

acquired a much better tool than they previously had for

studying spiders.

The researchers now intend to use the genome for

further work with studies of the spider's digestive

enzymes and immune system.

The study is published in the journal Nature

Communications.

Google Glass on sale in UK

                  Google Glass is now available .....;

Google Glass is now available in Britain to early adopters willing to spend GBP 1,000 for a chance to dabble with the Internet-linked eyewear.

The California-based technology titan expanded an ‘explorer’ program beyond the United States for the first time by inviting British enthusiasts to virtually queue for the gadget online.

"Probably the question we've heard more than any other is: when will Glass be available outside the US?" the Glass team said in a post on its Google+ social network page. "Well, we're starting out by dipping our toes across the pond." The eyewear - hotly anticipated by some, feared by others - became available in the United States in May to anyone with $1,500 to spare and a desire to become an ‘explorer’.

The decision to open the Glass test, or beta, program in the US came about a month after a one-day sale of the eyewear to the public.

In a possible sign of interest, the Glass page on the Google+ network has more than 736,000 followers and has been viewed more than 114 million times. Early this year, Google joined forces with the frame giant behind Ray-Ban and other high-end brands to create and sell Glass eyewear in the United States.

The partnership with Luxottica was portrayed as Google's "biggest step yet into the emerging smart eyewear market."

Luxottica brands include Oakley, Alain Mikli, Ray-Ban and Vogue-Eyewear. The first smart glasses by Luxottica for Google Glass will go on sale in 2015, according to the Italian eyewear group. Google has been working to burnish the image of Glass, which has triggered concerns about privacy since the devices are capable of capturing pictures and video.

During the Explorer testing phase, developers are creating apps for Google Glass, which can range from getting weather reports to sharing videos to playing games.

Glass connects to the Internet using Wi-Fi hot spots or, more typically, by being wirelessly tethered to mobile phones. Pictures or video may be shared through the Google Plus social network.

Your passport can help you get free Wi-Fi

get free Wi-Fi.....?.. Your passport can help you

No one can deny the fact that free Wi-Fi and a comfortable accommodation is what makes one’s outing an interesting one. It helps you remain connected even while chilling out with friends and family in a totally new place.

NTT, which is known to be Japan's largest telecom, has launched its new programme of providing free Wi-Fi to tourists who arrive in Japan. Travelers just need to present their passport to the NTT and register for a Wi-Fi card. This will in turn entitle them to free Wi-Fi access via 45,000 hot spots in different areas of Japan, which includes Tokyo, Hakone, Mt. Fuji, Yokohama, Nagano, Nikko, Kusatsu, Tohoku and Hokkaido.

If you are one of those individuals who is planning to visit Japan, you can even download the iOS and Android version of the NAVITIME for Japan Travel app and obtain an ID and password as well. Mashable also reported that this app can also offer an augmented reality mode that shows you a Street View-style image of the location where an available Wi-Fi hotspot is located’.

As per the official reports, the free Wi-Fi access will be made available for 14 days.

Tech Tips: Facebook ads, tracking and you

Tech Tips : Facebook ads, tracking and you

In the coming weeks, Facebook will start offering advertisers another way to tailor ads in the U.S., based on information gathered from other websites you visit and the apps you use.

If you use Facebook, the specific ads you see have been based mostly on what you do on Facebook your profile information, status updates, likes and interests.

That’s changing. The company says it will soon give advertisers more options to tailor ads to what you do outside Facebook. Shopping for a new TV? Get ready to see ads for TV sets on Facebook.

Unless you’re willing to unplug, there’s little you can do to avoid being tracked online. But there are some ways to control what ads you see and how the ads are tailored to you.

HOW IT WORKS?

Facebook doesn’t share your specific identity with advertisers. Rather, the advertiser can select the types of people to show ads to.

An advertiser might want to reach women who just moved to Boston and who just got engaged, for instance. When buying the ad, the advertiser checks all the boxes that apply. Facebook matches the ads to the specific people who fit those attributes, without having to reveal their identities to the advertiser.

Besides the obvious attributes such as location, age and gender, advertisers can select languages, “ethnic affinity” and life events such as people who have recently moved, are living away from their family, got a new job and so on. Advertisers who want to target the newly engaged can narrow that down to engagements within one year or within three months. There are even options to target baby boomers, video game console players, early or late adopters of technology, fans of specific sports teams or people who go on cruises.

Facebook even considers your offline shopping behavior. Facebook’s advertisers can see, for example, whether the ad for detergent you saw on Facebook led you to buy that brand in a drug store the following week. Facebook works with outside analytics firms to match what Facebook knows with what the retailers have on you and what you bought. Your name isn’t attached to this, but it may still feel creepy.

Not every piece of data is used to target advertising, at least not yet. For example, the company recently introduced “nearby friends,” which lets you share your exact location with your Facebook buddies so you can meet up. So far, you won’t see ads targeted to you based on the street corner you are standing on, but it’s easy to see how this could happen one day.

WHAT’S NEW?

In the coming weeks, Facebook will start offering advertisers another way to tailor ads in the U.S., based on information gathered from other websites you visit and the apps you use. This is called interest—based advertising, and Facebook says “many companies already do this.”

Facebook already serves “retargeted” ads. So if you visited Zappos.com and looked at a pair of black flats, you might see the same shoes pop up in a Zappos ad on Facebook. With interest—based targeting, a company selling socks might show you an ad based on your interest in shoes even if you did not previously visit its website.

WHAT YOU CAN’T CONTROL?

The best way to stop tracking is to stop using the Internet and move into a cave.

“Everywhere you go on the Web, with almost no exceptions, you are going to be receiving ads based on lots of data about you,” says Jules Polonetsky, who advises Facebook on privacy issues as director of the Future of Privacy Forum, an industry—backed think tank in Washington.

A few Internet companies such as Twitter, Hulu and Pinterest, along with some advertising networks and analytics firms, have agreed to adhere to voluntary guidelines called “do not track.” That lets people decline tracking by websites that they don’t visit.

Google, Facebook and Yahoo among the largest hubs for online advertising isn’t participating so far, so your preferences mean nothing there.

WHAT YOU CAN DO?

Facebook does participate in a version of “do not track” for mobile devices. To do this on iPhones and iPads with iOS 7, go to settings, then privacy, then advertising. Slide the lever next to “limit ad tracking” to the right, or green. On Android, go to Google settings (as opposed to the regular settings). Then choose ads and select “opt out of interest—based ads.”

If you are a Facebook user in the U.S., you will soon be able to click on a drop—down menu on the top right corner of every ad to find out why it’s being shown to you. You’ll still have the option to hide the specific ad from your feed, or hide all ads from that particular advertiser. Now, you can click on “Why am I seeing this ad?” to see why the ad was targeted to you.

Reasons could be your interests, such as the Olympics or the World Cup, or an advertiser’s desire to, say, reach women in your age group who live in your city. An ad offering called “lookalike audiences” lets advertisers target users with a similar profile as their existing customers. Let’s say a restaurant’s ideal customer base is over 35 and a fan of Mercedes—Benz. The restaurant can target this group with ads, for example.

You can opt out of having ads targeted to you here- http-//www.aboutads.info/choices . Besides Facebook, some 115 companies are participating in the program.

That said, opting out of targeted ads won’t stop you from seeing advertisements. They just won’t be tailored to you based on your online profile and activities. It also won’t stop Facebook (and other companies) from tracking you. It simply means that information won’t be used to show ads targeted to you.

How to download Android apps directly to PC

Now Android Apss on Your Pc

We all know that Android apps are available only on the Google Play. In order to download an app, you need an Android smartphone or tablet and an Internet connection, either 2G/3G or a wireless connection. You then need to search for the app on Google Play and download them to your phone or tablet.

However, there are millions off apps available on Google Play and while some are tiny apps, many are pretty large.  These tend to eat up into your app storage space, and more importantly into your Internet quota.

A smart way is to download these apps to your PC and transfer them to your smartphone or tablet. In this way, you can save on your 3G Internet bills by downloading the apps from your PC using the cheaper broadband connection. There are other benefits of downloading the apps on your PC—save them for use when you need them, uninstall and use apps at will, delete unwanted large apps to make space on your phone and install them later when needed, use the same app with other owned smartphones and tablets, run / test them on your PC using Bluestacks, distribute them with friends and family or simply keep a database of all apps and their versions.

We shall show you how to download apk files (Android apps) directly from Google Play to your desktop PC or laptop so that you can install the same on multiple smartphones and tablets. In this article, we shall show you how to use a simple utility to get the apps to your PC. All you need is your existing Android smartphone or tablet, a desktop PC with Windows (XP/7/8) and a broadband connection.

To begin with, download the utility called ‘Raccoon’, which is a Google Play desktop client for Windows. The software is a self-executable utility and does not need installation. Save the file to the desktop and run it. The first time you run the utility, you will be greeted with a popup window asking you details of your Google account, password and the Android Device ID.

ID, validates it and then processes information to identify a genuine user. In order to pass this information to the Raccoon utility, you need to enter the Device ID in the respective field. To get the Device ID information for your smartphone simply type *#*#8255#*#* on the dialer screen. Scroll down a bit and find the Device ID field. Alternatively, you can download Device ID app from Google Play on a tablet (or smartphone) to know the Device ID.

Once the Device ID is entered, you are ready to go. Simply search for the app you want to download and hit the download button. The apk files will be saved to a folder named ‘Raccoon’ on the desktop. You can then copy the apk file(s) to your smartphone or tablet’s internal or external storage and install them whenever you need.

Downloading apps from Google Play can be easily done using this method. There are quite a few other methods to do it too. Download the app on your smartphone, use a backup utility and transfer the apps to the PC. Use APK Leecher for Windows. Download from third-party market apps. Download from online file sharing resources. Downloading from third-party sources can bring in viruses, but downloading from Google Play directly can be safer.

Apple’s iWatch

Apple’s iWatch features a 2.5 inch rectangular display; Representational picture; Photo courtesy: AFP

Quanta Computer Inc will start mass production of Apple Inc's first smartwatch in July, a source familiar with the matter said, as the US tech giant tries to prove it can still innovate against rival Samsung Electronics Co Ltd.

The still-unnamed watch, which Apple followers have dubbed the iWatch, will be the company's first foray into a niche product category that many remain skeptical about, especially as to whether it can drive profits as growth slows in tech gadgets.

The production will be a boost to Quanta, whose work for Apple so far has focused on laptops and iPods, product lines that are in decline. Quanta's role, though, is likely to raise questions about what involvement Hon Hai Precision Industry Co, one of Apple's biggest suppliers, will play in production.

While the watch has been widely expected, the start date of its mass production and the extent of Quanta's involvement were not known until now. Mass production will start in July and the commercial launch will come as early as October, according to the source and another person familiar with the matter. The sources requested anonymity because Apple's production plans are private.

Apple will introduce a smartwatch with a display that likely measures 2.5 inches diagonally and is slightly rectangular, one of the sources said. The source added that the watch face will protrude slightly from the band, creating an arched shape, and will feature a touch interface and wireless charging capabilities.

The source said Apple expects to ship 50 million units within the first year of the product's release, although these types of initial estimates can be subject to change. The watch is in trial production at Quanta, which will be the main manufacturer, accounting for at least 70 percent of final assembly, the source said.

Like many other smartwatches, Apple's watch will be able to perform some functions independently, but tasks like messaging and voice chat will require connection to a smartphone, according to the source. The device will only be compatible with gadgets running Apple's iOS, like its flagship iPhone, one of the sources said. Most mainstream smartwatches collect data about the user's heart rate and other health-related metrics, in addition to facilitating tasks like checking e-mail and making phone calls.

A third source said LG Display Co Ltd is the exclusive supplier of the screen for the gadget's initial batch of production. It also contains a sensor that monitors the user's pulse. Singapore-based imaging and sensor maker Heptagon is on the supplier list for the feature, two other sources said

Xbox is launched in 3 months..

Xbox One to launch in India this September

Xbox is launched in 3 months..
After weeks of silence Microsoft has finally announced that the Xbox One will be hitting India Stores on September 23, 2014, and will be available at a price no one thought was possible earlier this year.

The standalone Xbox One minus the Kinect will be available for Rs 39,990, same as the PS4; while the Kinect Xbox One bundle will be available for Rs 45,990. The announcement comes hot on the heels of Microsoft E3 press conference which was rock solid from start to finish and focussed on what a console does best; games.

The E3 press conference coughed up some great new exclusives like Scalebound, an action game which teams you up with dragons and inside the spiritual successor to the hit indie title limbo. The biggest announcement was Halo Master Chief Edition, which is an upgraded version of Halo combat evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3 and Halo 4 all in one. The console will also receive a closed beta for Halo 5 guardians.

All in all, it seems like a good time to be an Xbox One owner and with the relatively decent price point and expected launch bundles; the Xbox One India launch will be a success.

This game has been murdered

          This game has been murdered

Here is a game

murdered

Murdered: Soul Suspect opens up with the main character, Ronan O’ Connor being thrown out of a window and then shot dead. His spirit is confused and wants to rest in peace, but it cannot do so until he solves the mystery of his own death. Ronan’s hunt for the truth leads him to a serial killer, also known as The Bell Killer; and the game revolves around finding out who has been killing young girls in the world of Salem.Murdered: Soul Suspect is a murder mystery and Airtight Games have tried to incorporate that into a video game. Story-based games have the potential to emotionally influence players, but Murdered: Soul Suspect fails to connect with you from both a gameplay and narrative perspective. The main character doesn’t generate any sense of empathy. His tough guy attitude makes him very hard to relate to and the game never makes you care about him.
Ronan is joined by Joy, a medium who can communicate with spirits and helps find the passage to the other side. During most of the game, you will be looking for clues. If you think you have found enough of them, you can attempt to solve the mystery. You can influence NPCs, peek into their computer and figure out what happened in the past by touching objects. Salem is filled with small stories for you to uncover and track back to the truth, in an attempt to give peace to the lost souls all around you. Your ability to talk to ghosts along with how each set of collectibles have a story behind them brings you into this world and adds to the emersion.
When you see demons wandering around, Murdered: Soul Suspect suddenly becomes a stealth game. It requires you to approach demons from behind and finish them off. If seen, you need to evade them; which brings about a drastic gameplay shift — from a no-fail to an instant failure state.

Since Murdered: Soul Suspect isn’t a visual novel; its linearity and simplicity prevent it from being engaging. On top of that, the story is nothing impressive and it suffers from weak characters. Yet the murder mystery keeps you hooked and by the end you are solely committed to finding The Bell Killer.

Strengths:
  • Compelling
  • Murder mystery
  • A genuinely creepy atmosphere
Weaknesses:
  • Characters aren’t even slightly relatable
  • Detective mechanics are too simplistic and linear
  • Several underdeveloped and under-utilised ideas
  • Combat can be infuriating and doesn’t fit with the rest of the game
